Sports for Family Health is a program that aims to transform sports venues into health promotion spaces. It is a collaborative program sponsored by DOHMH and the Queens community and sports partners. The focus is on healthy, active family lifestyles.
During the School year NOV to JUNE, we held sports activities for kids. Sponsored by DOHMH. The SFH project is an innovative approach that seeks to transform sport environments into venues for the promotion of health for youth and their families. The project’s main objective is to decrease driving forces of premature mortality through a youth sports program infused with family-focused health promotion programming. To achieve this, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will partner with community-based organizations to recruit and engage kids and their families ages 7-17 in the following zip codes Corona (11368, 11369), Jamaica (11433, 11434), Far Rockaway (11691, 11692) in public (NYCHA) and private housing. Kids enrolled should be from the specified zip- codes in the catchment areas above. However, partners are also allowed to recruit from District 4 (Corona), District 12 (Jamaica), and District 14 (Far Rockaway). |
